Week 4 Predictions
--------------------------------------------
by FM Ron Young
--------------------------------------------
Last week both of our fortunetellers did better than the previous
week's disaster, with Ron Young doing especially well. Below are last
week's selections:

|

|

When they picked the correct team, I have made it blue, and if they
also picked the correct score, I have made it red in the chart above.
As you see, Ron Young correctly predicted the result of 4/5 matches,
and predicted 2 of them exactly for a grand total of 10 points this
week.
Arun Sharma predicted 3/5 matches correctly for a total of 6 points.
Adding these scores to their scores from last week puts Ron firmly in
the lead going into week 4:
(this week's score on the left, total score up until this week on the
right)
Ron Young: 10+3 = 13
Arun Sharma: 6+3= 9
Now it's time to see this week's predictions!
Except for the new Seattle player on board two, this
is an exact colors-reversed rematch of Week One, which
saw a clean sweep for the Sluggers. Perhaps the tiny
lineup change was a precaution against any possible
voodoo Manager Andrews may have prepared. I think we
will see a sweep here (but only of the two matches).
Seattle by...one, I guess.
This is also a rematch, though none of the same
players face each other as did in week one. Dallas
therefore has the benefit of the revenge incentive
without the insidious lingering inferior feeling that
usually goes hand-in-hand. Dallas, 2.5-1.5.
Yet another rematch, though again, no individual
pairings repeat. Bryan Smith makes his first
appearance for Philly this week, and one that is
mightier than he cometh after. As of right now,
though, the savior is not in the building. Boston,
2.5-1.5.
Both these teams have thus far underachieved, and
their respective managers are trying different
strategies to turn things around—one by sitting out
for the first time, the other by playing for the first
time. It will be interesting to see whose idea works
better. Bonin-Schroer is a blast from the grungy,
urine-soaked (Fred) Waitzkin-world of the Eighties,
where only the pairing cards were balanced and only
the sealed-move envelopes were safe. I think the color
assignments favor the Knights. New York by the usual
odd point.
