When our prognosticators picked the correct team, I have made it blue, and if they also picked the correct score, I have made it red in the chart above.
Arun has overtaken Ron as the leader in this contest, gaining 10 points last week to Ron's 6. Of course there is a non-USCL affiliated predictor who
is crushing both of them (Although he did slight Ron out of 2 points due to faulty math). Click here to read who will actually win the matches this week.
Arun Sharma: 19+10 = 29
Ron Young: 21+6 = 27
Mystery Blog Guy: 28+15 = 43
Some of the younger folk out there may not remember
this, but once upon a time, Jaan Ehlvest was one of
the best collegiate players in the whole country.
While the “Brahmin of Baltimore”, Alan Sherman, is
justly revered, his players still had to sit down at
the board and make Sherman’s schemes work. Ehlvest was
one of the best at doing that. Philadelphia, 2.5-1.5.
I don’t want to jinx anything but I think we may just
be in for an exchange Ruy Lopez on Board Three! The
evaluation there can swing from +.03 to = so fast you
need an abacus to keep track of what’s going on. If
things do get slow though, there is a grandmaster duel
on the top board and tight matchups on the other
boards. Calming myself to attend to business for just
one moment, I’ll pick Boston to prevail by one point.
Two struggling teams meet without much at stake except
perhaps the top draft pick. I don’t know who that
might be so I can’t factor it into my forecast. I’m
left with the rating difference and that looks like it
might favor Dallas just enough to squeeze out the
minimum victory.
It had been smooth sailing all year for Seattle till
Irina Krush’s 41 ... Rxa4 came with a resounding
“BAP!” last week. We will now see how Seattle reacts
to a setback. I predict much caution leading to a 2-2
tie; possibly even a package deal for four quick and
bloodless draws.
