IM Pascal Charbonneau's win over GM Larry Christiansen is this
week's game of the week. The result of the game was not as it should
have been, as in a regular event, the players would have surely agreed
to a draw. Pascal looked to be in dire straits early in the game, as
the entire crowd on ICC felt that he was simply lost. Pascal showed
that things were not so easy as he played a piece sacrifice that was so
strange that many in the crowd thought it was a mouseslip! It was
perhaps this sacrifice by Charbonneau that turned the tide of this
match.
In the ensuing complications the game became drawn at which point the
Boston Blitz fell to 0-2 in the match. This meant that Boston had to
win on both boards, and Larry went all out trying to win a hopelessly
drawn position. As is often the case, the result of such bravery led to
