FM Ron Young's predictions - Week 6
---------------------------------------------
by FM Ron
Young

(Ron was off by a total of 1 point last week, however he only correctly
predicted the match result in two of four matches. He picked two
matches exactly correct and was off by a half point in the other two.
Will Ron be able to claim that elusive perfect week before the season
ends?) - USCL Commissioner Greg Shahade
--------------------
I’m going to be upfront here—I see a lot of “2-2” in
the crystal ball this week. But a win that ties a
match can be just as exciting as a draw that wins a
match. Or to put it another way, when there's no
crimson flowing, the finer hues have a chance to shine
through.
I’d like NY here if color assignments were different,
and I’d like Dallas if they played 1 e4 a bit more. As
things are, though, I don’t like anybody enough to
pick them. 2-2
Lest anyone think I am copping out with all these tie
predictions, I’ll be a bit more specific about how I
see this particular tie developing. I like the GM to
take care of business with White, but I think Riordan
is due to break through and beat someone, whether it
be Torres or Diaz.
Charbonneau has been hot but McCambridge has fair
warning and the white pieces. I expect sober steering
on the top board, setting the pace for another drawn
match. Oh, and I get Baltimore’s nickname! Very
clever.
Carolina looks strong on the top boards, but how will
Hoekstra react to last week’s debacle? I think he'll
develop his pieces quickly, especially the ones
between the king and the rook. So Carolina ought to
break through somewhere but Wilson has been money in
the bank all season and it’s just a question of whose
nuts he pulls out of the fire this week. 2-2.
