The first Grandmaster joins the USCL
GM Alex Stripunsky has become the first US Chess League
Grandmaster, and he will be representing the New York Knights.
Stripunsky made huge headlines when he tied for first place in the
United States Chess Championships with young superstar GM Hikaru
Nakamura. Despite losing the tiebreak match, Stripunsky showed that he
is definitely one of the top players in the nation.
Stripunsky should be a huge help to the New York Knights, as his
rating is 2663, however according to league rules anyone rated above
2600 will only count as a maximum of 2600 towards their team's rating
average.
"We are excited to have the first Grandmaster on our team" said
team player/manager WIM Jenn Shahade. "I think that with Alex playing
top board, we have great chances to win the league championship".
