Philadelphia Inventors

Welcome to the homepage of the Philadelphia Inventors, who will be playing each week live from the Franklin Mercantile Chess Club in center city Philadelphia.

Despite a very poor 2008 season, things definitely looked bright for the Inventors in 2009.  The addition of 2008 MVP,
GM Alex Lenderman, as both the manager and a player definitely served notice to the League of how serious Philadelphia was in turning around the struggles of 2008.  With Lenderman along with some talented young players, the Inventors also had a nice variety of very strong lineups, clearly signifying  that they would be a team to be reckoned with in 2009.

Unfortunately, like several other teams, the Inventors just could not seem to play consistently, being on the wrong end of many close losses, where several late mishaps turned possible wins and draws into losses.  Lenderman continued on his torrid 2008 pace, and IM Bryan Smith, who had struggled in the League prior to 2009, turned in a terrific season also becoming the 2009 Most Improved Player.  But the rest of the team could not seem to manage to follow their lead, and the Inventors were left out of the Postseason once again.

What the future holds for Philadelphia is very unclear.  Fans have to be hoping that Lenderman will remain on board with his continued dedication and very strong League play.  If he continues to do so, with him and a strong supporting cast, it seems almost assured that Philadelphia will make a return to the Postseason in the very near future.
