Philadelphia Inventors

Welcome to the homepage of the Philadelphia Inventors, who play their matches at the Franklin Mercantile Chess Club in center city Philadelphia.

After assembling a very top heavy lineup in 2009 which unfortunately didn't manage to produce the results they hoped for, it seemed likely in 2010 that the Inventors would return to the role that likely grew somewhat accustomed to in their early years of being pesky underdogs.

But while Philadelphia doesn't have quite the structure they held in 2009, the addition of former Destiny player, GM Magesh Panchanathan along with IM Bryan Smith having had some great results recently, the Inventors should certainly not be weak at the top.  And one thing Philadelphia has never had a problem with is having a large number players who are very capable of manning the lower boards, including two former All Stars, IM Richard Costigan and NM Elvin Wilson, who should help make them very strong on the bottom boards.

While most would likely not be inclined to put the Inventors amongst their favorites for teams to take the crown, it's been shown time and time again in the USCL that previuosly unheralded teams have the ability to come out of nowhere to shock the league as Carolina did in 2008 and New Jersey in 2009.  Given Philadelphia's penchant for being the underdogs, the thought of pulling off a similar amazing run might be just the motivation the players need to make 2010 their best season yet.
