San Francisco Mechanics

Welcome to the website of the San Francisco Mechanics! The Mechanics will play their matches at the Mechanics Chess Club in downtown San Francisco.

The San Francisco Mechanics come into the 2008 season with a trio of Grandmasters and a host of the most talented young players in the nation. With the much improved FM Sam Shankland rejoining the main roster after strong showings in 2006 and 2007, along with World U12 Champion FM Daniel Naroditsky, US Junior Co-Champion NM Gregory Young, and the youngest master in US History NM Nicholas Nip all a part of this year's campaign, the Mechanics seem to easily have the most impressive collection of young talent of any USCL team to date.

San Francisco added GM's to their 2008 roster the old fashioned way, their past players went out and earned their titles! While IM Vinay Bhat and IM Josh Friedel come into the season as only GM-elects, their titles should come shortly and the Mechanics hope that these new GM's and former US Champion, GM Patrick Wolff, along with their tremendous young nucleus will help lead San Francisco to another season like 2006, when they won the USCL Championship and compiled the best regular season record in USCL history at 8.5/10.
